Subject: Pharmaceuticals - Kodak's new "anti-counterfieiting" technology Vertical Industry Security posted by ScottWright on Wednesday, August 13th 2008 @ 8:13 AM
As most people know, counterfeiting is a huge and growing problem in the pharmaceutical industry. Various off-shore businesses take great pains to copy FDA approved drugs and find ways of getting them into the market.
According to a documentary I saw a few months ago (sorry, I don't remember the title or network), not only are they faked, but they often have no medicinal ingredients, and sometimes even have toxic ingredients.
So, while some may have known about Kodak's new TRACELESS product for a while, this is the first I've heard of it. I'd like to see if we can get a bit more detail on how it works, and what it means to businesses in the pharmaceutical industry. It seems to be a way of printing virtually undetectable verification information onto product barcodes.
Streetwise questions:
How much does it cost?
How well does it work?
What should medical offices downstream (clinics, doctors, etc.) know about this technology?
