It is best to keep your systems patched. Adobe, Microsoft and Apple are often issuing security patches and you ignore them at your peril. But it is a bother to track them. I'm glad you mentioned it. I had intended to talk about Secunia as a good tool for SOHO and small businesses for monitoring security patches that should be installed.
